Why do we process personal data?

We process your personal data in accordance with the purpose for which it was provided. Sometimes this may involve answering a question from you; you may be participating in a prize promotion*; completing a survey; applying for a job or already working with or for us; and if you place an order, we need to be able to deliver it to you. Our websites also use cookies – see below.

What personal data do we process?

The specific personal data we process depends on the purpose and nature of our contact. Possible data include:

How do we use your personal data?

We aim to limit the personal data we collect and store about you. Westland uses Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity and/or similar tracking tools. These tools may change from time to time; the currently active tools can be viewed in our cookie banner. The purpose is to improve the user experience and analyze website traffic — for example, how often users visit the site and which pages they view. Click behavior, mouse movements and screen recordings may be stored temporarily, with all personal data anonymized.

For our webshop, we reserve the right to store all information you enter on our website, provide over the phone, or otherwise supply, except for your credit card number and AVS code. This includes address information and shopping preferences. We use this information to ship your orders, respond to your requests, improve our selection, and communicate with you. Our newsletter is entirely opt-in, and every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. If you do not wish to receive further emails from us, please contact us at privacy@westland-kaas.nl.

Are we allowed to process your personal data?

We generally process your personal data based on your consent or when necessary for the performance of a contract. In most cases, you provide the data directly to us or through one of our partners (for example, a retailer, catering company, or marketing agency), or by accepting cookies through the cookie banner. In exceptional cases — for example, when your company provides a service — we may receive your data from your employer as part of your employment relationship.

When we process your data based on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time by contacting privacy@westland-kaas.nl.

How do we protect your personal data?

We take appropriate measures to prevent misuse, loss, unauthorized access, unwanted disclosure and unauthorized alteration of your personal data. We protect your information during transmission using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) software, which encrypts the data you provide. When confirming an order, only a fragment of your credit card number is displayed. Information stored in our customer database is protected using advanced security methods. In addition, we regularly maintain and update our systems to ensure ongoing protection.

Where is your personal data shared?

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We only share your data when necessary to comply with a legal obligation, when you have given consent, to process payments or reservations, to subscribe you to our newsletter, to fulfill a contract, to respond to your inquiries, or to send a prize if you have won a promotion.

We conclude data processing agreements with companies that process personal data on our behalf to ensure the same level of security and confidentiality. We remain responsible for these processing activities.

Westland Kaas provides your shipping information to carriers such as PostNL, DHL or FedEx, or in some cases to a marketing agency to arrange shipment. Data is transmitted via secure email, secure HTTP or secure FTP. Your credit card data is securely transmitted to the respective credit card company during order processing. You may opt in to our newsletter, which you can unsubscribe from at any time.

It is our policy to retain personal data within the EU, and we require the same from our partners and suppliers.

How long do we retain your data?

We do not retain your personal data longer than necessary for the purpose for which it was collected. Nor do we store your data longer than required or permitted under applicable legal retention periods.

How can you access, correct, or delete your personal data?

You have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data. You also have the right to withdraw your consent for data processing or object to the processing of your personal data by us. In addition, you have the right to data portability, meaning you can request that we send your personal data in a machine-readable format to you or another organization designated by you.

You can submit a request to exercise these rights (access, correction, deletion, data portability, withdrawal of consent, or objection) by emailing privacy@westland-kaas.nl.

To verify your identity, we may ask you to send a copy of your identification document with your request. Please black out your photo, MRZ (machine-readable zone, the strip with numbers at the bottom of your passport), passport number and citizen service number (BSN). This is to protect your privacy. We will respond as soon as possible, but no later than within four weeks.

What do cookies do?

We use technical, functional and analytical cookies that do not involve the processing of personal data. A cookie is a small text file that is stored on your computer, tablet or smartphone the first time you visit this website. The cookies we use are necessary for the technical operation of the website, your ease of use, the collection of anonymous and targeted information for marketing purposes, and to support security measures. They ensure that the website functions properly and remember, for example, your preferred settings. They also help us optimize our website.
