A history full of flavor

Our milestones

Years ago, our adventure began. A family with a deep love for cheese and an even bigger dream: to create a unique, characterful cheese that is not only delicious but also tells a story.

1936

The completion of the Afsluitdijk in 1932 ended the Westland family’s fish trade. In 1936, Westland Cheese was formally established. This marked the beginning of the search and creation of that best and unique bold cheese.

1985

In 1985, the Old Amsterdam brand was officially introduced in the Netherlands. The cheese had already been sold by the Westland family.

2025

Old Amsterdam celebrates its 40th anniversary.
